27th January 2006
National charity, Citizens Advice has won a top award for its information and advice website www.adviceguide.org.uk, it was announced last night.
The charity beat off strong competition to win the trophy in the voluntary sector and intermediary section of the national e-government excellence awards. The awards were presented by Jim Murphy MP, Parliamentary Secretary at the Cabinet Office, at a high level dinner at the Savoy Hotel attended by 440 senior public sector figures.
News of the award comes as the charity is poised to announce that Adviceguide is now attracting more than half a million visits a month.
Citizens Advice Chief Executive David Harker said:
"This award is a great accolade for our work. Adviceguide has been a fantastic success, enabling millions of people to get instant information on their rights and responsibilities in a whole range of subject areas and take steps to sort out their own problems. It's a great source of trusted information that really delivers what people need in an accessible way. Our huge increase in visits shows that more and more people are discovering this for themselves."
Adviceguide provides information on people's rights across a wide range of topics, from employment, housing and benefits to debt and legal issues. Updated regularly, it covers all four UK countries and has some information in other languages. Features include downloadable fact sheets and FAQs, and a What's New section.
Now in its seventh year, it has achieved outstanding success in reaching its audience and has become an invaluable online self-help service. Over the last three years, use of the website has increased by over 300% and new figures due out next week are expected to show that Adviceguide is now attracting more than half a million visits each month.
