Housing Housing

If You Are 16 or 17

If you are 16 or 17 and homeless, you can go to the homeless section of your local council and tell them you are homeless. They have a duty to house you while they look into your situation, and may well have to find you permanent accommodation if they accept you as being homeless. (You will also need a financial guarantor - if you do not have someone that can do this on your behalf.)

If you are given permanent accomodation you will have to agree to regular visits from a support worker.

They will probably want to arrange for you to meet with a social worker to see if there is a way of working with you and your family to sort things out. In the meantime, or if this is not possible, they will usually have to find you somewhere to stay.

Community Services or Social Services may want to contact your parents or carer (e.g. if they are making a housing assessment); but they cannot do this without your permission. Seek advice from one of the agencies listed if you are worries about this or would like someone to go with you.
